FILM FEST: CLASSIC FILM: The Great Dictator
2026 Houston Film Festival - Satire | 1940 | 125 min | USA | EnglishThe Great Dictator was Charlie Chaplin’s first talkie—a bold, satirical attack on Hitler and fascism, years before the United States entered World War II. Chaplin used humor and his uncanny resemblance to Hitler to expose the tyranny and repression. Chaplin produced the film himself after studios warned that it would never be shown in the UK or the US; it was later nominated for five Academy Awards. This work of resistance is a powerful plea for democracy and humanity and remains highly relevant today.

RE:COLLECTION by Anat Ronen: Meet the Artist and Live Painting
Anat Ronen is a Houston-based artist known for her large-scale murals and public artworks. Since moving to the US in 2006 from Israel, she has built an international career creating site-specific works.Anat started collecting old family photos during the pandemic. When painting from these references in large scale, those moments become time portals; they also become a collective memory. The exhibition invites us to reflect on the rituals of analog photography and preservation, embracing the impermanence of what we try to hold onto. With nostalgia and a desire to push the boundaries of her artistic practice, Anat weaves together these personal and anonymous images into a statement about the stories we carry and how we preserve them.Come meet Anat and see a live painting of her work.

2026 Houston Jewish Film Festival: New promising, entertaining and exceptional award-winning films are featured this year, bringing Jewish lives and stories to the big screen. The Most Precious of Cargoes:Striking watercolor backgrounds convey the harsh landscape beauty in this animated film about a baby thrown from a train bound for Auschwitz and found in the snow by a childless woodcutter’s wife. The child transforms the lives of her adoptive parents, despite the threatening danger from the “hunters of the heartless,” the antisemites. Almost silently, the film merges fairytale elements with the reality of the Holocaust, revealing both horror and humanity.
